A710 is low-carbon alloy steel. It is age-hardened and has a high yield strength.  It is divided into 2 specifications A and B that further are subdivided into 3 classes.   A710 Steel Plate is made up of such material. Though it has higher yield strength it is said to have a higher cost than other grades. A710 high strength structural steel plate has a thickness range between 12mm to 60mm and a length of 300mm to 1800 mm. Precipitation warm and precipitation invigorating treatment needs to be performed on these plates to achieve the desired mechanical properties. ASTM A710 Low-carbon Quenched & Tempered Steel Plate is widely used in dipper stickers, penstocks, bucket parts for power, shovels, and cranes. The design and weld of these plates account for stress. 

 

ASTM A710 Grade A Class 1 Plate is usually supplied in hot rolled and precipitation heat treated conditions and is limited to a thickness of ¾ inches. Whereas, the class 2 and 3 are limited by the capacity of the composition. The current practice limits the ASTM A710 Grade A Class 2 Plate to a thickness of 8mm. It is normalized and precipitation heat treated. Precipitation strength can happen during hot rolling, normalizing, and other heat treatments. ASTM A710 Grade A Class 3 Plate is quenched and precipitation heat treated. All these subdivisions of Grade A 710 plates are not meant to be used above 900 degrees F.



ASTM A710 Grade B Class 1 Plate on the other hand is available in rolled condition and provides minimum yield strength that depends upon the thickness and conditions. They are limited to a maximum thickness of 2 inches. ASTM A710 Grade B Class 2 Plate when galvanized slows down the corrosion in these plates. ASTM A710Grade B Class 3 Plate is available in quenched and precipitation heat treated conditions. Coated steel or galvanized ones are preferred if the application of these   A710 Steel Plate exposes it to chemical conditions throughout its life.
